The title of the thread is still misleading.
You may want to modify it to state the specific set of paramaters where you have worked out of, namely having to fit a tank and looking to hit at a very narrow set of ranges.
Because in nearly every other situation, most noteably PVP, the rails fall way, way, short of the lasers.

Alright.
Large railgun spec and large energy spec 5 added. Advanced weapon upgrades 4 added. Large energy turret to 5. Large hybrid turret to 5. All the smaller turret skills up to required level. Amarr battleship to 4. Using the same tank someone else posted, instead of mine as it's a more reasonable one...
Tachyon setup.
8 Tachyon IIs. (Multifrequency) 4 Cap recharger IIs. 2 RCU IIs 1 PDU II. 1 LAR II. 3 Hardeners.
Cap tank does not hold. You can only have your repper on maybe 2/3 of the time. Optimal range 33KM (Hence why multifreqs are used)
Raw DPS : 293.657
Railgun setup
8 425mm T2s (Antimatter) 4 CRIIs 1 LARII 1 CPR 3 hardeners 1 dam mod II 1 Copro II
And the cap holds indefinately.
Optimal range 36KM
DPS raw : 322.848
Do your own figures in case I'm wrong.
What about the same setup using Medium Armor Rep 2's instead of a Large Armor Rep 2.

8 x Tachy IIs 4 x CRIIs 1 LAR II 2 RCU II 1 HS II 3 Hardeners (enough CPU for n-types)
Average DPS : 360.909
8x Tachyon II w/ Multis 4x CR II
1x LAR II 3x N-Type Hardener 1x HS II 2x RCU II
DPS Raw: 443.4
Are you guys calculating things the same way? Doesn't appear that you are.

No, they don't.
As toster has already posted:
Tachy setup w/1 dmg mod: 443.4 DPS 425mm setup w/2 dmg mod: 423.7 DPS
About a 5% difference, but the tachy's are higher. I think you can begrudge him the 5% off he was in his statement, considering you were willing to say a ~65% difference in tracking speed was a minor increase : )

Originally by: Stamm I'm still getting different figures...
Railguns with every single gunnery skill at level 5.
Average DPS : 427.803
Tachyons with every single gunnery skill at level 5.
Average DPS : 399.822
So why are my figures coming out differently than two other peoples?
Quickfit v0.99z RC2
Considering the ~10% difference in dps between your tach numbers and toasters, I would hazard a guess you aren't including a Heatsink II correctly.
